The GOP is Dead – Long Live the GOP

If you’re looking for something positive to do after the election, my personal recommendation is to sign up for Rick Santorum’s Patriot Voices. Forget the GOP. It’s dead…until it rises from ashes. Karl Rove flipped out tonight, and it was bittersweet. Bitter because I wanted Romney to win, and sweet because it is people like Karl Rove who give us losing candidates like Mitt Romney. They deserve to be on the hot seat.

“Moderates” cannot win for the Republican Party. It has ever been so. Because the GOP establishment spent millions crushing every conservative challenger during the primary, and refused to let any primary challenger besides Rick Santorum (who came in second) speak at the convention, and refused to let any Tea Party leader speak at the convention, AND honored Ron Paul at the convention despite his not having endorsed the nominee, the GOP establishment OWNS this loss.

If you want an idea of how bad this is, check out Ben Smith’s article at BuzzFeed. He claims we all have to accept liberalism now as the new normal. All liberals will say that. Note this part, and remember that we have the GOP establishment to thank for the perception that the Tea Party is dead and that America is fully liberal.

The Tea Party is a memory, an embarrassment to a party that didn’t even mention it at its national convention in Tampa.

Maine has become the first state to ever legalize “same-sex marriage” by popular vote. The GOP did nothing to stop it. Rather, they spent millions attacking candidates in the primary who stood up for marriage. Oh, and by the way, Maryland, too. In Minnesota, voters rejected a proposal that would have banned “same-sex marriage” thanks in large part to a Republican Party that had as its nominee someone who believed the economy was the only issue.

Colorado has legalized marijuana. I have no idea what Mitt Romney’s position is on that. I doubt anyone does. I doubt even he knows his position on that. His home state also legalized marijuana. What’s that thing Mitt Romney says about an America you want your kids to grow up in? I forget now.

After being attacked by the GOP and opponents on the Left, Richard Mourdock loses his Senate race. Same with Akin.

Tommy Thompson, who is not 100% pro-life, lost his bid for the Senate. Brown lost in Massachusetts, too.

Allen West lost. This is something that may not have happened if the establishment had let him speak at the convention. As it stands, the GOP establishment wants nothing to do with people like West and they are probably glad that he lost because it will fit the narrative they’ll want to push, that conservatism is holding them back. West spoke at the March for Life this year, by the way. Why not at the convention? Because he’s a Tea Party leader, that’s why.

The GOP spends more resources attacking conservatism than it does attacking liberalism. The GOP needs to die and it needs to rise again from ashes as a conservative party. For starters, we can hold everyone to the platform on core social issues, core fiscal issues, and core national security issues. Let us argue about whether to support the space program or not. Life, marriage and the rise of Islam cannot be ignored. It is time that the GOP stop running itself like a business looking for customers. Instead of running a cash-based operation, the GOP needs to run a principle-based operation. At this point, they’ve nothing to lose. Who would sink money into this party now?
