It has been in apologetics groups like the ACTS Apologetics Group that I have tasted American-style freedom the most, where people may disagree boldly with each other without hating each other. The free exchange of ideas is a hallmark, if not “the” hallmark, of American freedom. It is from ACTS that I received in my email today a good reply to the question: Has God Abandoned America? The reply comes from ACTS member Lino de Soto, Jr. I would ask you all to read it and also to join ACTS Apologetics Group or some other apologetics group. Be bold in your defense of what you believe to be true, but do not hate anyone. It is in the field of apologetics where this skill is best honed, in my opinion.

Has God Abandoned America?

God abandons those who no longer have any use in His fellowship! Our Lord repeats His invitation to all of us to follow His example in prayer and penance, the most dramatic being the greatest penance of all, which is His crucifixion. God will only abandon those who abandon the cross.

America, in its founding allowed most graciously for awhile ,the free reign of religious ideas, which although hostile for some period to catholics, nevertheless gave free reign to that special vocation attendant upon our sacrificial teaching. If we must ask the question at hand, that is “Has God abandoned America”, then it appears that God himself has introduced into our hearts that very question as a means to show His reproof of our hubris.

It has been said that God gives an unwritten constitution to every country prior to its being set down in official prose. The great Catholic political thinker Orestes Brownson in his treatise about The American Republic made the observation that God gave it to America to be the final battle ground of ideas in which mankind was in the end, to make up its collective mind about the truth of Christ and the true faith founded by Him in political affairs. It seems that we have finally gotten to the answer regarding this question. Nothing other than a restoration by Our Lord Himself can provide the finality to this conundrum.

The turning to God and the one and only faith is obvious. But the collective consciousness needed to affect this is something else again. We catholics know that the Fatima consecrations haven’t been done. We also know that if they weren’t, then the end is surely at hand for all of creation. So to limit ourselves to the rather restricted idea relating to the end of our nation, is only a microcosm of the larger picture. That picture being the ultimate disobedience of a gentile who represents the entire human race. A person who thought it opportune to give free play to that impulse to submerge in a desk drawer, that which Our Lady wished earnestly to convey to the entire world. The secret for mankind’s salvation being held hostage to a pope who couldn’t (by some accounts) pass up a table full of victuals!

I end my narrative here. Many who read this can fill in the gaps. May we increase our rosaries and chaplets in order to take all of those fruits upon God’s table of graces offered to us, which include novenas, watchings , fastings and much more.

For it is in this last crusade (the taking on of the cross) in which our victory is assured.
