Bishops and Laity Work Together in the Philippines in White Vote Movement

It’s amazing to me to see how the Catholic bishops and laity are working together in the Philippines to promote pro-life candidates.

Read this article at Catholic San Francisco.

In February, the Diocese of Bacolod produced lists of those who supported and opposed the reproductive health legislation. The controversial lists, labeled in Filipino “Team Death” or “Team Life,” were on bright red and gray banners on the outer walls of the San Sebastian Cathedral.

The Commission on Elections ordered the diocese to take down the banners because they violated campaign poster-size limits on private property. The diocese argued it was a violation of its right to freedom of expression and filed a Supreme Court case, which is pending.

The White Vote movement’s Santiago said there was no reference to the names “Team Death” or “Team Life” in its endorsements. However, all six candidates labeled “Team Life” are backed by the White Vote. She said while the bishops’ conference gave guidelines on what kind of candidate to back, it was up to the lay organizations of the coalition to name who they would support.

‘Straight’ Man Claims Catholic School System Discriminated Against Him Based On ‘Gay’ Sexual Orientation

confusion

Can a “straight” man claim that he was discriminated against based on “sexual orientation” if a Catholic school system will not honor his employment contract because they mistakenly think he is an “active homosexual?” Try to wrap your mind around that one. That’s what’s happening now in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, according to Tim Nelson, the man planning to file a discrimination complaint against Regis Catholic Schools.

This is very complicated, to say the least, and I’ve been poring over two articles about it trying to figure out what the deal is. Both articles are clearly biased in favor of Mr. Nelson. One is at the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel and the other is at the Leader Telegram. There are important details mentioned in one article that are not mentioned in the other article, and vice versa. In other words, we’re not getting the whole story from either paper. In a nutshell, Nelson is living with another man. He claims this is why his employment contract is not being honored and he claims that he is not “gay” but is simply “friends” with the man. Nevertheless, he’s planning to file a discrimination complaint based on “sexual orientation” discrimination.

I know. Weird.

It appears to me (I’m guessing) that Regis Catholic Schools got wind of some information that prompted them to decide that Nelson is not qualified for the position and that the information could be harmful to Nelson’s reputation if it were aired publicly, so they are not airing it publicly. Nelson went to the press making these claims against Regis, and the press was only too happy to write articles that make him sound like a victim.

Yes, I am only guessing that they have information not found in press reports, but you see, it is perfectly logical to assume that is what’s going on here. Meanwhile, Nelson, who is the one who went to press, claims they are damaging his reputation?

Maybe you can make more sense out of this than I can, but be sure to read both articles. Put your thinking cap on first. You’ll need it.

Boston College Selects Pro-Abortion Irish PM Enda Kenny To Be 2013 Commencement Speaker

This is so blatantly wrong that it seems obviously intentional. Boston College has selected pro-abortion Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny to be their commencement speaker this year. Note this apt description of Kenny from Mary O’Regan at the Catholic Herald (UK).

Greater unity has occurred in the pro-life camp, while there are signs of mutiny in Kenny’s own party. The older generation of Fine Gael party faithful are scandalised. Many of them would have grown up in the Archbishop McQuaid era, and would have learned by rote that abortion is a mortal sin. They may not have been able to brace the freezing winter chill and take part in the January 19 vigil, but they are shaken by the crude way Kenny dismisses the life of the unborn, and to his peril Kenny would want to realise that these voters (for the first time in their lives) may not vote Fine Gael and could unseat him in the next election.

Indeed, but look at the way Boston College Heights describes him.

“Prime Minister Kenny is an internationally respected leader with a well-known reputation for promoting human rights and causes of social justice, two issues that resonate with the Boston College community,” said University Spokesman Jack Dunn. “It also seems fitting, during our 150th anniversary, to welcome the leader of a nation whose history is intertwined with our own. We look forward to having the Taoiseach address our students on May 20.”

University President Rev. William P. Leahy, S.J. will present an honorary Doctor of Laws degree to Kenny at the ceremony.

Oh really? Well, what do the “social justice” folks at Boston College think about this?

Taoiseach Enda Kenny still remains as one of the world’s highest paid political leaders — despite savage austerity ripping through the country.

Kenny has sparked outrage in Ireland over his support for abortion. It is “the” news story surrounding him right now. It seems it must have been intentional on the part of Boston College to select as commencement speaker “the” most scandalous politico they could think of, with the possible exception of Barack Obama.

Great Answer to Common Question: ‘Does Secular Gay Marriage Lessen Sacramental Marriage?’
avatar

Family

I’ve noticed that “gay rights” activists commonly get mixed up about what we marriage supporters mean when we suggest that “gay marriage” is “harmful” to the institution of marriage. Over at PapaFrancis.net there’s a great response to this confusion.

No, “civil homosexual marriage” does not “lessen” the sacrament of marriage itself, or harm it in any way.  But, it does make it less comprehensible to most people.  If people grow up in an era where “gay marriage” is accepted as equal and equivalent to any other, they will lose the fundamental ideas that marriage is ordered towards procreation and is made up of the complementary natures of male and female.

When we defend marriage as something that can only exist between a husband and wife, we don’t do so to defend the sacrament.  The sacrament can defend itself.  We do it to defend ourselves and the generations after us from being led astray from the truth  by a lie, that men and women are interchangeable, and that marriage is for our own gratification instead of being necessarily ordered for the benefit of our children.

Exactly.

Australian Catholic Priest Compares Sodomy to Mass

A Catholic priest in Australia offers a description of “gay” unions (sodomy) that any faithful Catholic would immediately recognize as a comparison to Holy Communion at Mass. [Emphasis mine.]

Canberra Times:

In a notable departure from the public teachings of some church authorities, Dickson-based priest Michael Fallon called for a ”public celebration of committed love for homosexual couples”, saying he feared ordinary people were being driven away from the Catholic faith by views they saw as hardline and irrelevant.

[...] ”[The public should offer] not just recognition, but joy, public joy in their communion with each other, that’s the least we can offer people,” he said.

If you were to ask me what a “public celebration of committed love” is, I would say “Holy Mass.”

If you were to ask me what is “public joy of people in communion with each other,” again, I would say “Holy Mass.”

Why would I say that? Because I’m Catholic, that’s why.

Of course, Gay Star News is, if you will, eating this up…because he’s a Catholic priest…using the kind of language that we use to describe Holy Mass.

God, help them, and all of us.

EWTN Points Out that Paul Ryan is in Opposition to the Church on Same-Sex Adoption

Congressman Paul Ryan

Congressman Paul Ryan

On May 1, it became clear that Paul Ryan has decided to support same-sex adoption. Strangely enough, he couples this with continued opposition to “gay marriage.” One wonders why he believes there is some distinction between the two, morally speaking. They are equally a threat to religious freedom, legally speaking, and are equally wrong, morally speaking. EWTN reports today that they contacted Paul Ryan’s office to ask about his newly expressed support for same-sex adoption and they received no reply. EWTN also points out the clear teaching of the Church on this issue.

EWTN News contacted Ryan’s office for comment but did not receive a response by deadline.

The Catholic Church’s Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith rejected same-sex adoptions and explicit legal recognition for same-sex couples in a 2003 document, “Considerations Regarding Proposals to give Legal Recognition to Unions Between Homosexual Persons.”

The document was signed by then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, who would be elected Pope Benedict XVI in 2005. Pope John Paul II approved its publication.

Same-sex couples who raise children deprive them of “the experience of either fatherhood or motherhood” and create “obstacles in the normal development of children,” the document said. It warned that placing children with same-sex couples is “gravely immoral” and contradicts international conventions which hold that the best interests of the child are “the paramount consideration.”

The document noted the need to respect those with homosexual tendencies. However, it said legal recognition of homosexual unions would “obscure certain basic moral values and cause a devaluation of the institution of marriage.” Legitimizing homosexual relationships, it warned, is “the approval or legalization of evil.”

Can’t you folks tell when someone “gets it” and when they don’t “get it?” I can. Can’t you see Jesus in people? If you know Him, you should be able to recognize Him in others. On some level, due to the Incarnation, Jesus is in everyone, but we are friends to each other as much as we are Christ to each other. I don’t see that friendship with Christ in Paul Ryan and never have. It doesn’t mean he is an “evil” person. No, not at all. Only God can judge hearts, after all. Still, you “know” who your friends are…don’t you? You can just tell that, right? I have never seen Paul Ryan as someone who “gets” our faith. Again, it doesn’t mean he is an “evil” person. Still, he doesn’t get it, and that has always seemed crystal clear to me. Why it has not seemed crystal clear to so many of my fellow Catholics, I will never know.

Pray for Paul Ryan.

My sheep hear my voice. I know them, and they follow me.– John 10:27

The Lid is Coming Off on Benghazi

Remember this, from one week after the attack on the U.S. embassy in Benghazi?

President Barack Obama jets off to campaign events Monday in the critical swing state of Ohio, even as Libyan officials and locals have shredded his defensive claim that a spontaneous protest against a Californian’s anti-Islam video caused the Sept. 11 killing of four Americans, including the U.S. ambassador.

“The idea that this criminal and cowardly act was a spontaneous protest that just spun out of control is completely unfounded and preposterous,” Libyan President Mohammed el-Megarif told the liberal National Public Radio network.

Instead, the killing was a military-style attack, he said.

It’s been a long time coming but we’re finally seeing the lid come off.

Weekly Standard has published some emails you will want to see.

If the House report provides an accurate and complete depiction of the emails, it is clear that senior administration officials engaged in a wholesale rewriting of intelligence assessments about Benghazi in order to mislead the public. The Weekly Standard sought comment from officials at the White House, the State Department, and the CIA, but received none by press time. Within hours of the initial attack on the U.S. facility, the State Department Operations Center sent out two alerts. The first, at 4:05 p.m. (all times are Eastern Daylight Time), indicated that the compound was under attack; the second, at 6:08 p.m., indicated that Ansar al Sharia, an al Qaeda-linked terrorist group operating in Libya, had claimed credit for the attack. According to the House report, these alerts were circulated widely inside the government, including at the highest levels. The fighting in Benghazi continued for another several hours, so top Obama administration officials were told even as the fighting was taking place that U.S. diplomats and intelligence operatives were likely being attacked by al Qaeda-affiliated terrorists. A cable sent the following day, September 12, by the CIA station chief in Libya, reported that eyewitnesses confirmed the participation of Islamic militants and made clear that U.S. facilities in Benghazi had come under terrorist attack. It was this fact, along with several others, that top Obama officials would work so hard to obscure.

Lying to the American people about an Al Qaeda-connected attack that killed Americans is very serious business, folks.

CNN reports today that “several sources” have shared with them that several Al Qaeda members took part in the attack.

James Rosen has the names of whistle-blowers in the administration who will be testifying.

Some conservative activists are calling for Barack Obama to be impeached. I think it’s unwise to focus on political revenge. Let’s focus on informing the American people of the reality of the situation first. Let the truth be aired widely…first. Otherwise, the uninformed may view this as a politically-motivated investigation. We need for Americans to be able to process and absorb the truth before anything else occurs.
