Poverty in America: It’s not just about food stamps and Obamaphones. It’s about suffering people who are hoping for change that is real, not just a slogan.
Don’t miss Rick Santorum’s op-ed at USA Today explaining how it was that Mitt Romney managed to lose an election to a failed president.
When asked which candidate “cares more about people like me,” by a margin of 81%-18%, voters chose President Obama. Despite presiding over persistently high unemployment and widespread economic pessimism and despair, voters chose Obama because they thought he “cared more” about them. As the American Enterprise Institute’s Henry Olsen points out, the entire Obama campaign was built around this message: Romney and the Republicans do not care about you. And that narrative — the 47% — carried the day. Having nothing to run on and fearing indifferent voters, the Obama team pushed this message and won.
Some are blaming Newt Gingrich for bringing up Mitt Romney’s record at Bain. Some are blaming Rick Santorum for hammering away on the issue of Romneycare. In the end, I think we all know that Mitt Romney was running against a failed presidency and that he could have won the election had he made the case that he and the Republican Party actually care about people who are not making it in this economy. Thanks be to God, Rick Santorum is still making the case for real hope and change, not the false promises of the Democrats that lead to dependency and despair.
Yes, I do hope that Rick Santorum runs again for president, and yes, I do endorse him already, and yes, he can win.
